A second scheme will involve use of technology in maths and English.   And at Alconbury Weald, the College of West Anglia and West Suffolk College will join forces on a construction training hub.  Working with Urban and Civic the focus will be on retraining people who have been displaced due to COVID-19 or who have been long-term unemployed.   “The hub will also offer upskilling opportunities to existing labour force to enable them to meet the technological changes, the digitalisation of construction and meeting the jobs of the future,” says Mayor Palmer.  Local colleges and providers can bid for grants for up to £50K to test new and innovative ways of delivering training courses to adults aged over 19.

More schools close today across Stamford, Bourne and Rutland after snow falls  | Updated: 09:18, 25 January 2021 More schools have announced they will be closed today (Monday, January 25) as a result of the snow. So far, schools that the Mercury has confirmed are closed are: Langham Primary in Rutland Bourne Westfield Bourne Abbey primaries have all announced closures. Bourne Abbey was taking children from both Bourne Elsea Park and Colsterworth. Bourne Grammar Stamford Welland Academy St Nicholas Primary, Cottesmore Remote learning will continue. Schools are currently only opening to vulnerable children or the children of key worker but parents are being asked to make alternative provision.

Sometimes simple things can spread great positivity, as Rhiana Smith’s colourful pendants prove.  | Updated: 14:46, 18 January 2021 The 17-year-old Stamford College student has been making rainbow pendants from branches in her garden in Deeping St James since the first lockdown last year. She displays them on a board inviting people to take one and continue to spread kindness and cheer. A member of Deeping Youth Club, where she has made care packages for people shielding, Rhiana said: “The group helped me with my confidence since having a difficult time at school. The leaders have supported young people to stay connected with each other and our community during Covid-19.”
