have shown us like this henri is incredibly fickle you don t know what you re going to get. the predictions change all the time. it s better to be over-prepared. the guys did call in extra cruise crews from around the country so we re pretty much ready for everything. tomorrow s monday so folks will try to get back to work. i don t know if schools are open there yet but everyone will be trying to get back with their life but you re still dealing with flooding, still dealing with the stalling storm. what are you looking forward to on monday that you think you may have to deal with? how are you preparing for it? well, alicia, our schools are not open yet so that s a little bit of good news. we still val a couple more still have a couple more weeks. we re asking people to be really careful. if you travel on long island, you know where flooding happens, you know where cars get stuck. we re asking people to avoid those areas as much as possible, might be better to get a late start.
supposed to go further to the east. it was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm. right now we re experiencing heavy, drenching rain. it was already saturated from fred. the ground is now completely saturated. we re concerned about flooding, concerned about our roads. we ve had cars stuck in the water. the guys are trying to get the drains as open as clear as we possibly can. the other concern is the tides, the high tide coming tonight on the north and south shore. it s a special concern on the north shore because that abuts the long island sound which acts like a funnel for the water, sucking the water in towards the city. that s something we re also watching very closely. are you finding that residents and business owners, folks who live there are heeding the warnings and have been? you know, they really are. i ve been out and about and i have been struck by how empty the roads are. that s good news. on long island, we re used to
flash flooding. notice behind me, we also do have still the rough seas and this is something that is a good sign right now. the water is pushing back. it s receding because we re at low tide but then again tonight around 11:00 p.m. we re going to have high tide and there is that threat for storm surge. so 1 to 2-foot storm surge is still a concern here on long island, all the way from here,. atsmith point beach to montague. it is stalling out, losing the forward momentum and sitting over the region and it s making everything wet. so officials are asking you to stay inside unless you absolutely have to go out. we ll continue to monitor these conditions. for now, i ll send it back to you in the studio. okay, fox weather correspondent steve bender, thank you. we are keeping a close eye on the path of the storm. let s go to fox weather chief
meteorologist rick reichmuth with the latest forecast. what can you tell us? hey, benjamin. as steve was talking about, it s slowing down in forward progression, that means more rain is going to fall because it has more time to sit in one spot. this is the image of the life of henri, started way to the east of bermuda, went to the south and then curled way back up, very atypical trajectory for a storm like this. we had massive storms yesterday and overnight across parts of tennessee.e. we re going to be covering not associated with this tropical storm or hurricane but it appears at this point over a dozen fatalities so a sto that is not getting much attention, we re going to talk about. get back to henri here. center of the storm made landfall on the border of connecticut and into rhode island. you notice all of the moisture is towards the west of this storm, the left side. a lot of times in tropical systems we see most of the moisture on the right side. not the case, this storm is
