When Michael Healy died in 1941, he was hailed as the “pioneer artist of the modern Irish stained glass movement” by art historian Thomas MacGreevy. He was the first recruit to the new studio, An Túr Gloine, set up by portrait painter Sarah Purser, and was possibly the key artist, remaining there for almost four decades. His windows, around 100 in total, are exquisite and convey a profound religious transcendence. ?
