background chatter, as you well know. i know that. but when you get the background chatter, it gets hard to tamp down. do you think he s stirring these conversations today? do you think he s pushing these pieces? is that a fair shot at rahm? i doubt it. rahm is many things, one is a smart politician. i don t think these pieces are particularly helping him. they re making him more the focal point. and they re enraging a lot of other people around town who don t think it s appropriate for somebody who is, after all, it s a staff position, a chief of staff, he shouldn t be out there sort of making his case this way. i ve had staff positions, and let me tell you, john, i know exactly the painful position of having positive pieces written about you. and it s not a smart thing to have it done. it is very painful with the boss. puts it right on you.
