New Daytona Beach City Manager Feacher to make $220,000 base salary

We re excited and delighted to be at this point, Mayor Derrick Henry said. Feacher will be Daytona Beach s first Black city manager. The first Black city manager in Volusia County was Isaac Turner, who was Ormond Beach s city manager from 2001 to 2007. Feacher s contract was approved on a 6-1 vote, with City Commissioner Quanita May casting the only no vote. May was also the only city commissioner to vote for another finalist for the city manager job during a special meeting March 27. Chisholm, who began leading the city in the summer of 2004, announced more than a year ago that he would retire this spring. So the 76-year-old Chisholm will end his time at the city s helm a week or two after Feacher transitions into his new position.

Daytona Beach city commissioner wants public in meeting room again

DAYTONA BEACH  Members of a Republican women s group aligned with new City Commissioner Stacy Cantu will be at Wednesday s commission meeting lobbying for an end to the city s year-long blockade on the public coming into City Hall meeting rooms. Daytona Beach has kept the public out of commission chambers and other meeting rooms to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, but virtually all other local governments have allowed people back into their meeting rooms now. The push to open Daytona Beach s meeting room doors, however, comes as coronavirus cases in Volusia County have surged over the past few weeks. The number of daily reported cases one day last week was 65% higher in the county than a few weeks ago, according to Florida Department of Health figures.

Daytona commissioner slams firm leading city manager search

DAYTONA BEACH  Almost one year ago, City Manager Jim Chisholm alerted city commissioners that he intended to retire in March 2021. Now it looks like Chisholm will be sticking around at least until June 1 since commissioners are behind schedule in their process to choose a successor. City Commissioner Stacy Cantu blames the delay on the private consulting firm the city hired last fall to search for city manager candidates. After unleashing a scathing rebuke of Slavin Management Consultants during Wednesday night s City Commission meeting, Cantu called for the firm s immediate termination. They did not meet any deadlines, Cantu said during the meeting. (Slavin) has not met any requirements on this contract. Nothing.

DAYTONA BEACH  Somewhere in a pile of 43 resumes and cover letters could be the name of the next Daytona Beach city manager. It s a marquee position that offers the power to shape the city for decades to come, and the changing of the guard is coming as Daytona Beach is seeing a downtown renaissance and an explosion of residential construction that s pulling in new commercial development right behind it.
