Perennial Artisan Ales is more than a beloved microbrewery its tasting room offers small plates and snacks, too. Wash that pumpkin hummus tartine down with a chamomile-infused Saison de Lis, or pair a sausage sandwich with a tall, cold Aria Ale.
Late-night dining destination Uncle Bill's (open 24/7) provides night owls with perennial breakfast/diner favorites, including omelets, biscuits and gravy, and, of course, plenty of pancakes. Specials include the 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, which fills a plate with two eggs, two pancakes, two bacon strips and two sausage links. If that won't fill you up, go for the Supreme 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, which adds hash browns to the mix. Always crowded on weekend nights.
With their brightly colored, red-and-yellow signs, Elicia's surely demands attention at its five area locations. Elicia's has been serving up its St. Louis-style (read: cracker-thin crust) pizza since 1981. Specialty pizzas include the anti-veggie pizza, featuring sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, ham and bacon, and its antithesis, the pro-veggie, which includes onions, mushrooms, green peppers and black olives. Besides pizza, Elicia's also offers appetizers, salads and sandwiches.
Luvy Duvy's Café across from Benton Park on Arsenal Street at Jefferson Avenue serves up breakfast and sandwiches in a cozy, friendly atmosphere. Breakfast, served from 7 to 11 a.m. and all day Saturday, features items such as a BLT on Texas toast, French toast and a breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, cheese, hash browns and sausage. Sandwiches, all served with a side of chips, include tuna, egg salad, chicken salad and a Cuban sandwich of roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickles on a sweet bun with spicy mustard on the side. Other sides are available for an extra charge, including soup, chili and potato salad. For dessert, try Elsie's spice bundt cake covered in a light, sugary glaze. A kids' menu and catering are also available, including boxed lunches that feature a main item, chips and a cookie.
