Apart from the 325 metric tonnes of fuel in its tanks, MV X-Press Pearl was loaded with 1,486 containers carrying about 25 tonnes of hazardous nitric acid.

India on May 25 responded to an emergency request by Sri Lanka Navy and deployed multiple assets to douse the fire on MV X Press Pearl off Colombo. According to a press release, the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka informed that the nation dispatched Vessels Vaibhav, Vajra and Samudra Prehari by Indian Coast Guard and Tug Water Lilly by Director-General. Additionally Dornier aircraft for aerial reconnaissance has also been deployed.
The 25 crew members- of Philippine, Chinese, Indian and Russian nationality- on the ship have been rescued.

COLOMBO: India has dispatched two Coast Guard vessels and an aircraft to help the Sri Lankan Navy douse the flames on a container ship that caught fire off the coast of Colombo last week, amid intensified efforts by the coastal command to extinguish the fiery wreckage.
The 25 crew members- of Philippine, Chinese, Indian and Russian nationality- on the ship have been rescued.
