COVID cases in the country exceed 1,000 for the second consecutive day

Thursday, 29 April 2021 - 17:11 The highest number of COVID cases in the country was reported yesterday (29) with a record of 1,466 cases. This is the second consecutive day that the number of patients reported in a day has exceeded 1,000. The highest number of patients were reported from the Colombo District, which was 228. Meanwhile, when PCR tests were conducted on 14 persons in Divulwewa, Anamaduwa, 12 of them had tested positive for the virus. The persons diagnosed were identified to be relatives and had attended several Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations together. Random tests which were carried out at the Galenbindunuwewa weekly market have diagnosed several fish traders with the coronavirus. A tense situation arose when the authorities decided to take measures to close the weekly fair. Four persons who obstructed the duties of Public Health Inspectors were also arrested.

Health authorities cannot control spread of COVID anymore - PHI Association

Tuesday, 15 December 2020 - 14:06 The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association stated that the health authorities cannot control the spread of the coronavirus as required any more. Association Chairperson Upul Rohana stated that if people fail to act responsibly during the upcoming festive season, the spread of the virus could further increase. Among the 688 COVID patients that were identified in the country yesterday (14), 200 patients were identified from the Colombo District. It also included 58 Welikada Magazine Prison inmates, 38 patients from Mattakkuliya and 17 persons from Avissawella. From the Kalutara District, 117 patients were identified, 113 patients were identified from the Gampaha District, 55 patients were from the Mullaitivu District, 48 persons from the Galle District, 38 persons from the Nuwara Eliya and 2 patients from the Ampara District were identified.
