COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has upped its COVID-19 care facilities by increasing the number of dedicated hospitals, units, and agencies to 52.
Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, Project Director, Sri Lanka Covid 19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project speaking to News 1st said at present 20 such dedicated hospitals, units and institutions are in operations and construction is taking place to complete the establishment of 32 new such premises.
In addition, a decision was reached to obtain vehicles on rent for COVID-19 preventive operations.

Neelika Malavige, Professor from the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura told reporters at the Government Information Department that the new variant is behaving completely different from the variant detected in the first and second COVID-19 waves in the country. She further added that the new variant will be announced in the next few days.
