AP Travellers from India will not be permitted to disembark in Sri Lanka with immediate effect, Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority has said.
The decision, made known on Thursday, has been taken in accordance with the instructions received from the Ministry of Health, officials said, effectively suspending a bilateral travel bubble arrangement between the two countries.
The restrictions will be reviewed “as soon as possible”.
Although authorities had earlier announced that the travel bubble would be suspended due to the COVID-19 surge in India, the Ministry of Tourism subsequently said the “bubble” was in place, with strict health protocols and quarantine requirements.

Sri Lanka today announced that all arrivals from India will be banned with immediate effect due to the record rise in Covid-19 cases in India.
Sri Lanka s Civil Aviation Authority said that travellers from India will not be allowed to disembark in Sri Lanka. The decision has been taken as the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly in India.
The Director-General Civil aviation in a letter to the CEO of the national carrier Srilankan Airlines has said, in accordance with instructions received from health authorities of Sri Lanka due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it is hereby directed that passengers travelling from India will not be permitted to disembark in Sri Lanka with immediate effect.
Sri Lanka\'s Civil Aviation Authority (CAASL) said all incoming passengers would have to obtain prior approval from the Foreign Affairs Ministry or the Sri Lankan missions of the respective countries to enter into the island country in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, local media reported on Wednesday.
