Kerawalapitiya Garbage Dump Fire Doused Kerawalapitiya Garbage Dump Fire Doused Written by Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): The fire that broke out at the Muthurajawela – Kerawalapitiya waste disposal site on Thursday evening (Feb. 18), was brought under control at around 8:00 am on Friday (Feb. 19). The blaze engulfed an area of around 4 acres of the disposal site, where polythene and plastic waste is discarded. The Tri-Forces and Police also joined the Fire Brigade to put out the fire. The elegant national spectacle of the year was dignified by the presence of religious leaders of all major denominations and other guests. An eye-catching tri-service Guard of Honour, was accorded to the President, followed by the customary 21-Gun Salute, presented by Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment.
