A man doing a multi-day trek through the Wild River Wilderness area was killed after a tree that he had hooked his hammock to fell on him.
Edward Murphy, 50, of Sandown was reported missing by family when he didn’t show up Wednesday as scheduled following a multi-day hike through the wilderness area, which is east of Mt. Washington near the Maine border, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
“Evidence at the scene indicated that Murphy had been killed when a tree he had placed his sleeping hammock on fell and struck him,” wrote Lt. Mark Ober of New Hampshire Fish & Game’s Lancaster office in a press release.
