台北市立動物園從2017年開始，每年都在園區內野放圈養繁殖的台北赤蛙，去年更擴大野放區域，將幼蛙野放到昆蟲館、雨林區、溫帶區、濕地生態池等水域環境。今年春雷過後，研究人員已在濕地生態池的外圍，就聽到上百隻的台北赤蛙的叫聲。台北赤蛙的成蛙體型很小、約僅3至4公分，牠們棲息在平地到淺山的水田、草澤及埤塘，春天雨後台北赤蛙雄蛙就會來到水邊鳴叫找女朋友。過去在台灣西部很多地方都有觀察紀錄，但由於農地經營方式改變及環境用藥等因素，適合台北赤蛙棲息的野外環境大幅縮減或劣化，讓牠們的野生族群岌岌可危，現在台北赤蛙已成為珍貴稀有保育類動物。
