The tram got a face lift honoring the first ShareLunker Ethyl. Visitors can now ride the beautiful Ethyl Express which has carried thousands over the years on tours.

The Texas Freshwater Fishery Center is fully reopening for the first time since the pandemic started in 2020. The TFFC originally opened 24 years ago in a competitive bid for this flagship facility which has been a benefit to the community ever since. Visitors can come watch speakers, divers and a feeding display. It is also the home base of the ShareLunker program, for preserving and growing our states bass in size and quality, that started in 1986.
ATHENS â The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is hosting the first statewide virtual 5K âSpring Spawning Runâ to celebrate the fish spawning season and recognize the importance of state fish hatchery efforts to enhance the fisheries resources and fishing opportunities for more than two million anglers in Texas. This yearâs 5k run will take place virtually the entire month of May, which means participants can show their support from anywhere in the state at their own pace.
âThis is a fun and healthy opportunity to get outdoors and show your support for Texasâ fisheries resources during the important spring spawning season,â said Tom Lang, Director of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. âI know that I plan to work in my 5K with my family as we hike to some of our favorite fishing spots.â
