With enthusiasm and vivacity, Amed Galo Lopez melds lyrical honesty and melodic exuberance. Lopez, an alumnus and doctoral student in the history department, said he seeks to kindle joy among his listeners, an aspiration he carries with him into the upcoming Spring Sing competition.
Deviant Voices A Cappella at UCLA is bringing the groovy sounds of the ’70s back to Spring Sing. Founded in 2010, the ensemble began as a noncompetitive a cappella group for students who are not studying music in college, said co-president and fourth-year global studies student Simon Thorpe.
Icarus Contemporary is going the distance in its return to the Spring Sing stage. Breaking away from its previous contemporary Spring Sing performances, the student-run dance team is opting for an upbeat, jazz-inspired routine to explore themes of self-expression and empowerment at this year’s event on Friday.
With a cheerful song and an attitude to match, SWADE hopes the Spring Sing audience will be on its feet all night long. Composed of fourth-year cognitive science student Jonathan Wan alongside Ray Anderson, Ralph Gibson and Brian Perez, SWADE is making its Spring Sing debut Friday.
