Spotify is rolling out ‘Hey Spotify’ which adds voice controls to the mobile streaming app.
With Hey Spotify, users can call up specific artists, songs, playlists, moods, and podcasts.
It is currently available to some US users in Spotify’s iOS and Android apps, but a greater rollout is promised in the coming weeks.

While you probably already use either Google Assistant or Bixby (or Siri) to start playing your music or podcasts on your smartphone, Spotify is now officially announcing that they have come up with their own voice assistant that you can use to control the app hands free. “Hey Spotify” is the new phrase you have to say to get the voice-controlled experience that they are launching so that users will be able to “start, navigate, and search for their music and podcasts.”

It builds upon the already-existing Spotify Voice feature that is available only for Premium users. Spotify Voice is a voice-based search that needs to be enabled by long-pressing the microphone icon on the search bar. It is similar to what Google and Apple offer with their voice assistants.

GSMArena, Spotify is rolling out the wake word “Hey Spotify.” The report says that it appeared on the Galaxy S21 through a notification. I tried to replicate the findings but wasn’t able to locate any such feature in the Settings menu. Hence, it appears to be a region-specific roll-out. It is also unclear if this is a server-side update. However, you are advised to keep the app up-to-date on your smartphone.
