WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) The Christchurch-based Crusaders scored a single try in each half to beat the Auckland-based Blues 15-3 in a pivotal match in Super Rugby Pacific on Saturday. The match between the fourth-place Blues and fifth-place Crusaders was much-anticipated and watched by a capacity crowd of 17,000 in Christchurch.
NEW PLYMOUTH, New Zealand (AP) The Queensland Reds beat the Hamilton-based Chiefs 25-22 on Friday to end the Chiefs’ 10-match winning streak in Super Rugby Pacific. The Chiefs weathered challenges from all of the top-four teams in the tournament so far but came unstuck against the Reds who had won only four matches before pulling off one of the biggest shocks of the year.
Former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer is about to start his first game for his new team the Yokohama BayStars. Bauer was shunned by major league baseball after claims of domestic violence and sexual assault. He was eligible to play this year in the MLB but no team would take a chance. His past has not followed him to Japan where he's a minor celebrity with Yokohama fans hoping he can bring the team its first championship in 25 years. A local department store will unveil a massive poster of Bauer to promote his first game.
LOS ANGELES (AP) Hannah Green of Australia made a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole to join a three-way playoff, and then made par on the second extra hole to win the JM Eagle LA Championship on Sunday at Wilshire Country Club.
