One of Florida s largest volume boatbuilders announced this week it will be expanding its manufacturing facility and increasing its work force to keep up with demand of new boats.
Maverick Boat Group s next phase of expansion will boost the company’s manufacturing space by 106,000 square feet and add 150 new jobs to the Treasure Coast economy, according to a news release sent out May 5 by the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County.

Aine Denari, president of Brunswick Boat Group, joined the Center for Sportfishing Policy’s board of directors.
“CSP is honored to welcome Aine to the board of directors,” CSP president Jeff Angers
said in a statement. “We look forward to working with her to promote recreational fishing access and advance public policy priorities.”

CSP also reported that the Billfish Foundation is now a Sustaining Member.
“The Billfish Foundation’s long history of conserving billfish and advocating for responsible fisheries management has made a difference for fish around the world,” Angers said.
B.A.S.S. Gilliland appointed to habitat board

B.A.S.S. conservation director Gene Gilliland has accepted a seat on the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) Board. Chartered by Congress in 2006, NFHP coordinates 20 regionally-based Fish Habitat Partnerships, each working to improve fish habitat, and has supported more than 1,000 projects benefiting fish habitat in all 50 states.
In this new role with the National Fish Habitat Partnership Board of Directors, I will be representing not only the 515,000 B.A.S.S. members but the broader community of freshwater recreational anglers, said Gilliland. My goal in volunteering for the NFHP Board is to ensure that freshwater recreational fishing is a priority in the decision-making and funding process.

“The recreational fishing and boating community has long advocated for transitioning away from large-mesh drift gillnets which needlessly kill non-target species including sportfish,” Jeff Angers, president of the Center for Sportfishing Policy, said in a statement at the time. “Today marks a significant victory for marine conservation, and we are grateful for the bipartisan effort to get the Driftnet Modernization and Bycatch Reduction Act across the finish line.”
Proponents of the measure will have to wait until the new Congress because there is no time left in this session to overturn Trump s veto. Feinstein has indicated she will press again for the legislation during the incoming Biden adminstration.
