Student Trustee Toothaker seated on SRC Board

CANTON Mary Toothaker, Farmington was sworn in as the 2021-2022 Student Trustee for the Spoon River College Board during their regular public meeting held April 28 at the Canton Campus. A member of the Student Government Association and a Student Ambassador, Toothaker was elected by her peers for the position and said she is looking forward to the learning experience and in being more involved with campus activities.
Also taking the oath of office were re-elected Trustees Linda Butler and Jerry Cremer. The Board then approved Cremer as Chair, Kevin Meade as Vice Chair, and Phillip Murphy as Secretary for the coming year.

CANTON The Spoon River College Board of Trustees will hold its regular public monthly meeting Wednesday, April 28, 6 p.m. in Rooms A and B in the Spoon River College Engle Conference Center on the Canton Campus.

There is just one contested election for the Macomb City Council. Two candidates are running to replace Fifth Ward Alderwoman Gayle Carper, who is stepping down.
Ashley Katz and Caren Bordowitz both participated in the online candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of McDonough County. You can watch the forum here.
The event also included remarks from Macomb City Council, Macomb School Board, and Macomb Park District candidates who are running unopposed. Candidates for the Spoon River College Board of Trustees also participated.

Introducing candidates for April’s election

McDONOUGH COUNTY The League of Women Voters of McDonough County organized a virtual forum where candidates for local offices introduced themselves and spoke about why they are running.
Tri States Public Radio News Director Rich Egger moderated the forum, which included candidates for park board, library board, school board, Spoon River College Board of Trustees, and city council.
Macomb City Council:
Two candidates are competing to replace Fifth Ward Ald. Gayle Carper, who decided not to run for another term. Those candidates are Ashley Katz and Caren Bordowitz.
Bordowitz is a graphic designer in university relations at Western Illinois University. She said that she wants to use her organizational and relationship-building skills to give back to the community.
