well, the company won t confirm that he is leaving yet. however, the wall street journal is citing sources familiar with the matter saying that the bp board is currently in negotiations with hayward about his departure. the sources describe the matter as a mutual decision. and they report that the board is going to meet tomorrow to discuss this matter, eric. eric: meanwhile, they are working on trying to permanently stop this thing. what s the time frame for finally having that well capped? yeah, looks like the time frame may have been set back as much as a week when tropical storm former tropical storm bonnie moved into the gulf. they didn t want to take any chances. they moved all of the vessels away from the site of that well with the exception of one, which was in charge of monitoring the remotely operated vehicles which was able to stay at the site. those vessels, as we speak, are heading back into the spill site. at any given time you have
hours. but this whole storm threat that did not materialize here, that storm now setting this operation back probably about a week, if you look at all of the days that it took to get everything out of there, everything disconnected and now everything to reconnect and get going again and that happens mot just out at the spill site and that s also happening all along the coast of louisiana, when they thought this was going to be a tropical storm they started bringing in all sorts of protection measures that they had taken. like this boom. they were retrieving boom because the boom wouldn t be able to stay in place during a tropical storm. here, where i m standing in st. tammany parish, this waterway is actually very important. because this feeds lake pontchartrain, which is back here behind me. every time a tropical system comes through it, it pushes tar balls through this area and into lake pontchartrain. well, they had a system of barges setup to capture that oil as it comes into this
spill site this weekend and make landfall on the gulf coast sunday. bonnie is no longer considered a threat to the well and could even help to break up some of the oil in the water. although it could also push the oil further into the gulf coast marshes and wetlands. onshore, transocean whistle-blower mike williams testified today about new details of the deadly explosion on april 20th. among them, alarm systems routinely shut down, including at the time of the blast. williams claimed a system to isolate well gas from ignition sources had also been turned off, and that he was reprimanded for questioning the system which was, of course, designed to save lives. bp, meanwhile, removed another photo from its website today after gizmodo revealed the photo had been photo shopped to make it appear that a helicopter was flying and that the water was bluer than it really was.
