An ex-US marine accused of burning his estranged wife alive allegedly jumped into a pool after he too caught fire to dampen the flames.
Police will allege Brian Earl Johnston, 34, doused Kelly Wilkinson, 27, in petrol and set her alight on April 20 at her home in Arundel on the Gold Coast before the flames spread to his body.
He is accused of then jumping into a nearby swimming pool to save himself, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

A post-mortem examination has revealed a mother-of-three died from horrific burns she suffered after her US marine ex-husband allegedly doused her in petrol and set her on fire.
Brian Earl Johnston, 34, a former US military corporal, has been charged with his ex-wife Kelly Wilkinson s murder after allegedly setting fire to her at her home in Arundel on the Gold Coast on April 20.
Johnston was found nearby suffering from burn injuries and taken to the Royal Brisbane Women s Hospital - where he remains in an induced coma.

Ex-US Marine Brian Johnston appeared to be on a deadly mission when he arrived at the former family home around 6am last Tuesday morning.
Knives, duct tape, rope, an army camouflage duffel bag and a jerry can were allegedly found by police at the scene in the Gold Coast suburb of Arundel - suggesting frightening preparations before he allegedly killed and set his former partner Kelly Wilkinson alight while their three children were present.
The items were reportedly found in the backyard beside Ms Wilkinson s burnt body, while one of three knives he was allegedly carrying was also found nearby.
