It seems like every year, our fair burg grasps the next highest rung on the gilded ladder of ascension toward Official Gold Star Nationally Recognized Music City® status, and that Everest-ian climb definitely looks to continue into the coming year. Perhaps due to being afforded some, um, “extra free time,”
Several singers are breaking away from their bands to play music for you this week starting with Matthew Logan Vasquez of the Delta Spirit, Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup and Raul Malo of The Mavericks. There are also some brand new bands to check out this week like FIT, Hard Detox and Stymz, who have just been itching for a live stage after the pandemic year. This week also sees the return of North Texas favorites Lorelie K, Sarah Ruth and American Shit Storm. Start marking up those weekend calendars.

Opal M. Miller Jones, 1928 - 2021 Opal Miller Jones
Opal M. Miller Jones, 92, passed away January 15, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born November 28, 1928, in Rush County, to Julius and Amelia (Georg) Muth. Opal married Merle H. Miller January 19, 1950, in Great Bend. Merle died February 25, 1992. She later married Dale W. Jones April 28, 1994, in Las Vegas. Dale died Sept. 19, 2008.
Opal, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a homemaker, and for many years worked part time at Dillon’s. She was well known for her cake decorating business, which she enjoyed from 1971 to 2010. Opal was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagle’s Auxiliary, VFW Post 3111 Auxiliary and American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She also liked KU basketball, casinos, bowling, and Bingo. She loved to dance.
