Spencer media partners the Spencer Reporter, Spencer Municipal Communications and Spencer Radio Group will host a pair of candidate forums on back-to-back Wednesdays, May 15 and 22, in council chambers at Spencer City Hall, with both forums beginning at 6:30 p.m. The primary election in Iowa is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, across the state.
The Spencer Reporter asked Rep. Megan Jones, R-Sioux Rapids, five questions in advance of the upcoming 2024 legislative session. The questions we asked and Jones’ responses are printed below.
Q: What are your priorities for the 2024 legislative session?
On behalf of the staff of the Spencer Reporter and Northwest Iowa Shopper, we wish all of our loyal readers, subscribers and advertisers as well as everyone in our readership area a very Merry Christmas. To allow our staff time with their families this holiday season, the office will be closed Friday through Christmas day. The office will reopen Tuesday and because of the holiday, the Dec. 26 paper will be delivered Wednesday rather than Tuesday.
Volunteers with UPS and the Spencer Fire Department joined members of the Spencer Reporter staff out at The Depot on the Clay County Fairgrounds Sunday to load and deliver all the gifts donated to the Adopt A Family program. Once all the items were loaded, the teams hit the road and delivered to approximately 60 families determined by Upper Des Moines. (Photos submitted)
Individuals and groups who adopted a family for Christmas through the Spencer Reporter's Holiday Family Adoption Program can drop off gifts the next two Saturdays, Dec. 9 and 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at The Depot on the Clay County Fairgrounds.
The gifts should be wrapped, and they should be tagged for the individuals specified in the listings that were published in the newspaper in November. For example, follow this or something close to it: "Family 34, son 10 years old."
