Parks board gets first look at splash pad concepts

The Spencer Parks Department has received initial concepts for a new splash pad, campground and a set of updates to the city aquatic center. Engineers with Bolton and Menk presented their initial designs to the Spencer Parks Board during its regular meeting on Dec. 12. Combined, the three projects could cost more than $11 million, according to estimates provided by Bolton Menk.

Parks Director Jared Elbert says they put together rules that follow state code. The board also talked about the YMCA agreement for the playground program and aquatic center. Parks & Recreation Director Jared Elbert says they are looking at speed limits, capacities, and more. Elbert says electric bikes and scooters are becoming more popular in bigger cities, and they’re starting to see that popularity transfer over into Spencer.
