For the past week, the Canadian town of Listowel has been embroiled in a war of words via business signs that has captivated local residents and people around the world.
It started as a battle between two businesses in the Ontario town - Speedy Glass and Dairy Queen (DQ) - and has since spread to the entire town and even further afield.
Locals have been joining in, creating fun mottos for their business sign. There are thousands of signs on local businesses from our town alone to neighbouring towns and cities and counties, Trevor Cork, owner of Speedy Glass, told the BBC.

A “sign war” recently started by Speedy Glass in Listowel has quickly ignited friendly rivalries between dozens of businesses and organizations throughout the North Perth town and across Perth County.
Trevor Cork, one of the owners at the Listowel auto-glass repair shop, said he fired the first shot after scrolling through a Facebook post about a similar sign war brewing in Christiansburg, Va., in the U.S.

“I was tagged in a post on Facebook a little over a week ago, and it was from a small town in Virginia down in the states,” Cork said Thursday. “It was very similar. It was a sign war and I thought, ‘You know what, Listowel and this community can absolutely rock this.’

Work crews on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, clean up damage and board up windows in Northeast Portland s Hollywood District after vandals damaged 27 businesses and workspaces, police said.

Window repair company Speedy Glass has never seen times like these.
Their Portland emergency crews have been on call every weekend and employees have sometimes worked 15-hour days boarding up windows as the city has faced a conspicuous jump in burglaries and vandalism. Over the summer, Speedy Glass was booked out a month and a half for window replacements.
