SPECSAVERS Ilkley has invested £40,000 in hospital-quality technology, which can help detect treatable common eye conditions sooner than more traditional tests. The new OCT (optical coherence tomography) machine, which was installed this month, only takes a few seconds to take a 3D image of the retina and structures of the eye. These images allow opticians to look deeper into the eyes than ever before and can also help to detect common sight-threatening conditions up to four years before any symptoms appear, helping to prevent avoidable sight loss. Sara Saunders, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Ilkley said: “This investment gives us the ability to enhance the services to the local community by identifying and helping to detect or manage conditions, with a level of diagnostic capability which previously would have needed a hospital visit.”
SPECSAVERS Ilkley has invested over £250,000 in a store improvement programme, which will allow the store to expand and include a hear care centre for its customers. The expansion will offer a new test room, allowing the store to increase its hearing test capacity for customers along with greater availability of enhanced optical services. Roger Copley, store director at Specsavers Ilkley said: “This investment gives us the ability to enhance our hearing and optical services. It will provide a dedicated hearcare room with cutting edge technology and will increase availability for micro suction ear wax removal. “The investment in improving the store will also create career opportunities in the longer term, which will be widespread across the team in both optics and audiology – with expansion comes the need for more team members.”
