diseases tend to emerge. so either in south america or south east asia or parts of africa, where often these diseases jump the species barrier. you need to put in, maybe some of the reports have suggested, $1 billion, £1 biilion a year to kind of ensure that you ve got that surveillance system set up. and then you ve got to put more of that in to strengthen the health care systems and the labs around the world. i mean, it s a tiny amount of money when you compare it with the trillions that have been lost in this pandemic. but memories are short. so your guess is that we won t actually do much about this? i hope we ll do something. and there are very respected voices out there calling for action. and, really, if we don t learn from this pandemic, it s a crying shame
