is for the first time in the history of the country, a former president a facing federal charges. it is friday, june 9, here are the latest developments. a grand jury in florida has indicted trump on seven counts related to the mishandling of classified documents. his lawyer says he is facing a charge under the espionage act. and also charges of obstruction of justice, false statements and conspiracy. the former president released a video railing against the indictment calling it a hoax and election interference. he says he is an innocent man. in a post trump said he has been summoned to appear in federal court in miami 3:00 p.m. tuesday. they did not give any advanced warning of the indictment. secret service will be coming up with a plan for the court appearance. and congressional allies quick to rally to his defense as some of his campaign rivals attacked the legal system but avoided direct support notably of the former president. so far the biden white house has not c
mar-a-lago club. based on your assessment, if you had to draft a memo about whether they should pursue obstruction, what is your assessment of this case for obstruction of justice? yeah. so obviously you have to have the evidence to get all of those allegations into court when you bring the case. this is clearly a speaking indictment meaning that you re putting a lot of details in it so people actually know the strength of your case. and by all objective standards, seems like a pretty strong case of obstruction here. the material difference, there are a lot of differences between here and what special counsel mueller was investigating. but here what we had, the circumstances were, he had already been issued a grand jury subpoena. there was a grand jury that was already investigating whether or not he had unlawfully retained these national defense information documents. and he, according to the allegations in the indictment, knew that the grand jury was investigating this and specific
team. we haven t seen the indictment. but when we do see the indictment because it includes a conspiracy charge, wouldn t that mean that it will be what is called a speaking indictment meaning that it is longer, if tells us a story, it doesn t just list charges? normally an indictment is pretty bland. but the speaking indictment will give you a narrative so that helps the public understand what this is about. and generally you are not appealing just to the public, but you want to such an important case, it will take you through and i m sure there will be things that might surprise us that we didn t expect. maybe we ll learn about certain people who might have testified or other evidence. but that will take us through the entire story not the entire, but a lot of that story. and there is so much we don t know. we don t have the indictment, we don t know what is in here. and conspiracy means at least two. a lot more to learn.
