Angela hudson, an associate and soon to be full professor at texas a m university, an expert in American Indian history, representations of American Indian and popculture as well as intersection of American Indian and africanamerican lives. She received her phd from yale held fellowships at the American Philosophical Society and the rare book and manuscript library, among others. Her first book was called indian settlers and slaves and the making of the american south. Her most recent book is, real native genius how an exslave and a white mormon became famous indians. It was just published from the university of North Carolina press. She is a dear friend and occasional mentor to me. I lost some of the older buildings of sioux falls where you get a good feel for what would be considered the main street of sioux falls. This is part of the sculpture walk in downtown sioux falls. To the left is the federal courthouse. You can see that it is built out of this pink sioux falls quartz, which is on the reasons the sellers chose this because it is an plentiful supplies. That would be downtown sioux falls, or is that representative of historical sioux falls . John historical sioux falls. Downtown is coming back. For a while downtown moved out to the west side where the malls where. There has been a big resurgence in downtown sioux falls, like a lot of downtown in many cities across the country. First of all just a few introductory marks about free speech on campus when is this issue is not new era its gotten more attention this year than in many years in the past but there are fairly constantly debate over controversial speakers and whatnot at a do think that context has been missing sometimes. Likewise for reasons that are somewhat hard to predict, the press jumped on some incidents much more than others. And so as you look at these issues as they come up, thats important to remember. I also think its very important to remember that when youre talking about controversial speakers on campus, most of them speak relatively without incidents.
