no one like whitney. mr. davis happens to have turned 90 this year. he s taking the bow, as i mentioned. speaker pelosi s 82. the president is 80. he s got a former president running against him who s up there as well. so when you think about age in this era and trying to be open minded about what people can do, clive produces movie, still throws parties. so i asked him about that aspect in today s debate. what do you think about the way we re dealing with and understanding americans and people around the world living longer and not just longer, but living productive, healthy lives and the political question, if you want to take it or not, is there an age in which someone s too old to run for president? is 80 good to go? i know nancy pelosi real well. she s on top of her game.
we run really good elections in this state, we run fair elections in this state. we don t engage in voter fraud and voter suppression. we re here to count the votes, follow the law, follow the constitution, and declare a winner. i hope to see what secretary raffensperger called own, stand by the results, win or lose. that s what we did for 200 years in this country. come back and fight another day. do a better job. have better ideas and win over more voters. that is how this is supposed to work. since you made that speech, we ve seen a lot of people get hurt. most recently speaker pelosi s husband, paul pelosi. we also saw a threat to brett kavanaugh, the supreme court justice. do you think that violence, political violence, is getting worse? it s definitely getting worse, but it seems to go in cycles. i m old enough to remember the 70s when we had regular
we ve seen a lot of people get hurt. most recently speaker pelosi s husband, paul pelosi. we also saw a threat to brett kavanaugh, the supreme court justice. do you think that violence, political violence, is getting worse? it s definitely getting worse, but it seems to go in cycles. i m old enough to remember the 70s when we had regular bombings. we need to scale back the rhetoric. let s remember it was mr. schumer that said they re going to reap the whirlwind after this. he had to walk that back. he didn t want to at first. and president trump continues with this irresponsible language. people need to be held accountable. the problem is right now the incentives are backwards. if you lose this kind of language, you raise more money, get more clicks, get more tv air time. it s hard to say let s have boring, normal politicians. who are just here to do their
we learned about the speech in an axios event today. anita dunn announced that the president was going to be speaking near capitol hill where i m sitting in union station. we re going to hear the president say the political violence is something that we can all rally around. something that everyone can be against. martha, you can see in the poll, there s very little else that americans agree on. the president will try to draw a line from january 6 and what happened at the capitol, the scene of the crime is how he will tray to portray it with the book end of the attack on speaker pelosi s house. saying that over those events, he s been worried about political violence and now this is snag he s going to argue people should come out to vote against. interestingly, it s not a white house speech. it s a democratic national committee speech. so this is going to be an explicitly political speech where he will urge people to
cases, some sources indicated they would like to see more prosecutions. they think that could be impactful. the capitol police statement saying yesterday they hope that there are more prosecutions for people who make threats against members. congresswoman lofgren making it clear. in 2021, capitol police tracked more than 9,000 threat cases. specifically 9,265. of those, only 271 cases were presented to u.s. attorneys for prosecution, and of those, prosecutors only took 27. that s such a small fraction. a fraction of a fraction of the overall threats they were tracking. capitol police hoping there will be more prosecutions. they think making the consequences clear will send a clear message. thank you very much. coming up, with tensions very high after the attack at speaker pelosi s home, joe biden
