the national guard. it was because i felt our perimeter would be sparsely populated. i had a joint session of congress. most law officers would be working inside. i had limited number of officers for the perimeter. when you talk about the number of people working i don t have the exact numbers in front of me. i had a number of people out with covid. a number of people were out for that. that s why we had lower numbers. that was the disparity between what you saw january 3rd and the numbers on january 6th? when you say january 3rd you felt compelled to ask for the national guard? yes. i needed a large perimeter to keep some of the rioters and protesters from coming over the fence. one of your biggest frustrations in the book was
way that we will ever address the gun problem without addressing the ways in which the fill the filibuster combined with the two senators per state rule basically undermines majority rule. alison, if you look at 20 states that have the most highest gun ownership per capita. they send 30 to republican senators to washington out of those 20 states. if you go to the 20 states that have the smallest gun ownership per capita, they send 32 democratic senators. so equal. the difference is the 20 states with the fewest gun ownership for capita have about 125 million more people. then the 20 states with the most gun ownership. and so, basically what we re seeing on guns is that it is perhaps the premiere example of how the rules empower a small number of sparsely populated, predominantly white rural states that have an outsized influence on national

east pacific here. the interest here, when it comes to the strength of the storm, it is a category 2 but weakening on approach, which is goods news. a lot of winds on top of it are shredding it apart here. we think landfall inside the next 12 hours or so and the system is slated to weaken further but notice what it did in the past 24 hours. going from a category 1 to a category 4. landfall expected later on this evening. heavy rainfall the primary threat. it s an in an area that s sparsely populated. winds increase at one point from 75 to 130 miles per hour. just to give you a sense of scale of the storms compared to ian, it is about the third the size of ian as it relates to the
intensity to category 4 straight. landfall slated for monday afternoon. the biggest threat will be significant rainfall. and the storm surge threat. look at wind speeds, in the span of hours. another system that rapidly intensified going from 75 miles per hour to 130 miles per hour. with the storm, it is different to what we saw with ian. that storm was strengthening. but the storm is weakening. the wind field is less. the cloud field of the system, only one third of the size of hurricane ian. the impacts will be smaller than what we saw. this particular region of mexico, south of mazatlan, sparsely populated. the storm surge threat could approach two meters. close to six feet across some of these areas. some of these areas are isolated in nature and the system will weaken as it approaches landfall. we think category 1, monday around 5:00, 6:00 p.m.
