Florida to lower age requirement for vaccine access to ages 60 and up

LEESBURG  Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that Florida will soon lower the age requirement for COVID-19 vaccine access. During his press conference from the Florida State Capitol, DeSantis said the age eligibility for the vaccine will be reduced to include individuals aged 60 and older beginning on March 15. With this latest change, Floridians eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine: long-term care facility residents and staff, residents aged 60 and older, frontline health care workers, and law enforcement officers, K-12 school personnel, and firefighters ages 50 and up. Sumter County receives additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine

LEESBURG  The Florida Department of Health in Sumter County received additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week over prior allocations, with 10,000 first doses and 1,000 second doses. The health department will also receive an additional 6,700 second doses today. Additional doses of the vaccine have been distributed in part to The Villages Hospital, Florida Cancer Specialists and Langley Health Services. Meanwhile, vaccination efforts continue in Lake County at two sites and Global Medical Response continues to operate a a vaccine site in Sumterville.  While the GMR has been operating at Lake Sumter State College, the provider will soon change locations. GMR will move to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Wildwood on March 8, which will support an expansion of vaccination throughput. GMR will contact patients scheduled for March 8 and beyond to ensure a smooth transition between locations.
