Israeli officials have demanded an apology from the NBC television network after a
Saturday Night Live comedian joked Israel has only been vaccinating half its population, the Jewish half a lie made all the more absurd in light of Israel’s heavy and successful campaign to persuade its Arab population to get the vaccine.
“Israel is reporting that they’ve vaccinated half of their population, and I’m gonna guess it’s the Jewish half,” quipped Weekend Update co-host Michael Che to laughter.

With a reputation for lampooning politicians and public figures, Saturday Night Live remains a must-watch show for millions of Americans.
But there are limits. Already, various media outlets have stoked misconceptions, if not hatred, of Israel by feeding on false perceptions that the Jewish state has unfairly procured millions of coronavirus vaccines while many other countries and populations have not.
However, SNL host Michael Che took things one step farther, effectively perpetuating a modern-day blood libel namely, that Israel treats its non-Jewish citizens differently and worse than its Jewish citizens on the latest edition of the show that aired on February 20 .
