Southwest is also in contract discussions with its cabin crew members, who in January approved a strike mandate after rejecting a tentative contract. Last month, Southwest pilots approved a labor contract, which will offer about a 50% raise over a five-year period. Since October 2022, Southwest Airlines has ratified contracts with nine worker groups.
/PRNewswire/ Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) (the "Company") today reported its fourth quarter and full year 2023 financial results: Fourth quarter net.
CHICAGO (Reuters) -Pilots at Southwest Airlines will get about a 50% pay raise over a five-year period in their new contract, according to the details shared by their union on Wednesday. The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA), which represents more than 10,000 pilots at the Dallas-based carrier, also said its board has voted to send the deal to members for a ratification vote. Pilots at rivals United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have all secured big raises and improvements in working conditions in new contracts.
American Airlines flight attendants are asking federal officials for the right to go on strike, possibly before the end of the Christmas and New Year's travel rush, but American said there was “no possibility” of a walkout over the holidays. Leaders of the flight attendants' union say they are frustrated with the lack of progress in negotiations over a new contract for workers who have not seen raises since 2019. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants petitioned the National Mediation Board on Monday to declare the negotiations deadlocked and give the union permission to strike after a 30-day “cooling-off period.”
