The Brandon School Division didn’t run any rural buses on Thursday, and a division official said it won’t be the last time if this extremely frigid weather persists.
BSD transportation supervisor Ron Harkness told the Sun on Thursday morning that the division only considers cancelling bus routes when temperatures dip below -35 C or -45 C with the wind chill. And that’s just strictly dealing with temperatures, he said. If we’re dealing with adverse weather then we’re contending with other factors too, like the road conditions and stuff like that.
Given that temperatures around Brandon are expected to drop below -35 C on Friday, with the wind chill, Harkness said that there’s a good chance the division will cancel bus routes again.
