Get our children involved
A team from the Chelmsford Mothers Club went work on April 18, with participants both tall and small, at Southwell Field in North Chelmsford. Part of our mission is community service, said Jill Comins, of the Chelmsford Mothers Club. I had seen the Earth Day event through [the Department of Public Works,] and said, This is a great idea to get our children involved. So, why not clean up an area that our children spend time, and use, and enjoy, to give back to the community?
The kids found a way to turn the activity into a game. Comins said, The kids would run around, and get pieces of trash, like it was a scavenger s hunt.

CHELMSFORD Earth Day comes but once a year, but the town is planning a cleanup activity that lasts a week.
This year, the town s annual Earth Day cleanup takes place April 19-25, with volunteers needed to help pick up trash along streets, water ways and public recreation areas.
The event is dubbed the Earth Week Town Wide Cleanup. To make it super-flexible for people, we decided to make it the whole Earth Day week, said Melissa Joyce, sustainability manager.
Joyce said organizers hope that participants will share the news on social media, including with tagged photos.
