SOUTHINGTON â James Paul joined the fire service at nearly the first chance he got, starting as a volunteer in his home town of Branford.
Paul signed up on June 10, 1983, âthe day I turned 16,â he said.
On Thursday, the townâs fire board appointed him Southington fire chief, a role heâd been filling on an interim basis since the departure of former chief Richard Butler.

SOUTHINGTON â A local marketing company and town officials are working on ideas to boost promotional efforts and attract more attention to what the town has to offer.
Rebel Interactive Group won a contract with the town for marketing late last year. The company has since created a website, www.seesouthington.com, shot a promotional video and created targeted digital ads as part of its campaign.
The site highlights things to do in town, such as breweries, arcades, restaurants and the Mount Southington Ski Area. Town Councilor Michael DelSanto, also chairman of the economic strike committee, said the goal is to put Southingtonâs attractions on the map for central Connecticut residents looking for something to do.
