Southern white rhinoceros, subspecies of the white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum). The largest rhinoceros group overall in terms of population, the subspecies inhabits grassland areas in southern Africa primarily. Most researchers divide white rhinoceroses into southern white and northern white subspecies.
