Rising coronavirus cases in England have prompted scientists to urge the government to introduce a tougher Tier 5 lockdown.
Scientists have suggested a lockdown similar to the one in November would not be enough to control the rapid spread of the new strain of coronavirus. Millions of people across the country are now in the highest tier of coronavirus restrictions with more areas plunged into Tier 4 from Boxing Day.
Yorkshire s tiers have remained the same meaning West and South Yorkshire are in Tier 3 with North Yorkshire still in Tier 2.

Germany and Hungary began administering their first coronavirus vaccine shots on Saturday only hours after receiving their first shipments, upsetting the European Union’s plans for a coordinated rollout on Sunday across the bloc’s 27 nations.
“Every day that we wait is one day too many,” said Tobias Krueger, the operator of a German nursing home where immunisations began. The first person at the home to be immunised with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 101-year-old Edith Kwoizalla, dpa news agency reported.

ermany and Hungary have become the first EU countries to roll out the vaccine after they began a day earlier than the rest of the bloc, upsetting plans for a co-ordinated rollout on Sunday.
Tobias Krueger, the operator of a nursing home where immunisations began on Saturday in Halberstadt, in the north-eastern German region of Saxony-Anhalt, said: “Every day that we wait is one day too many.”
The first person at the home to be immunised with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 101-year-old Edith Kwoizalla, the dpa news agency reported.
Mr Krueger said 40 of the home’s 59 residents wanted the jab along with 10 of around 40 workers. He was among those immunised, but added: “I also understand the concerns.”
