EDWARDSVILLE Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Arts & Issues will present Manual Cinema’s “Christmas Carol” its version of the Charles Dickens holiday classic at 7 p.m. today online.
The one-hour live event will feature hundreds of paper puppets, miniatures, silhouettes and an original score that also will be performed live.

An avowed holiday skeptic, Aunt Trudy has been recruited to channel the famous Christmas cheer of her late husband, Joe. From the isolation of her studio apartment, she reconstructs his annual “Christmas Carol” puppet show over a Zoom call, while the family celebrates Christmas Eve under lockdown. But as Trudy becomes more absorbed in her own version of the story, the puppets take on lives of their own and the family’s call transforms into a stunning cinematic adaptation of Dickens’ classic ghost story.
