ROANOKE, Virginia – A Chicago-based surety company has asked a federal court to approve liens against West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice and two of his companies for failing to pay a court-ordered judgment of more than $8.5 million.
A Charleston-based insurance provider, BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company, asked a federal court to require one of Gov. Jim Justice s coal companies, Southern Coal Corporation, to post a roughly $500,000 bond. The insurance company says the Justice coal firm hasn t paid a court-ordered money judgment stemming from a 2015 workers compensation and employers liability insurance dispute.
Federal Insurance Company is seeking the judgment in New York federal court for what it says was the governor and his companies violating an indemnity agreement.
One of Gov. Jim Justice’s coal companies told a federal court Friday that it can’t pay roughly $750,000 as ordered by the court primarily to maintain collateral for financial obligations
