Smoke from an over 1,000-acre prescribed burn in a state park north of Fellsmere will likely be seen from Interstate 95 and could make its way north into Palm Bay, a park official said.
Crews with Florida Department of Environmental Protection started the controlled fire at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park around 10 a.m. Wednesday, said Justin Teall, a natural resource manager with FDEP Division of State Parks.
He said smoke from the fire would likely move further north into Southern Brevard County and westward for days.
They started a test fire around 9:40 a.m. to check how it would react with wind and weather conditions.
