Southend Coastguard were called to reports of the family of seven at 1.26pm yesterday afternoon. They were on the flats which were one mile out at the Mulberry Harbour with the tide incoming and nearing the beach. The coastguard teams bringing in the parents and their five children from the mudflats A coastguard spokesman said: Officers proceeded to West Beach Slip adjacent to the coastguard station whilst the RNLI Southend Lifeboat Hovercraft was tasked to extract the casualties and return them to west beach slipway. The two adults and five young children had misjudged the tide times. The family were checked over but didn t require any further assistance from coastguard officers although safety advice was provide to the adults.
