Wexford and Rosslare groups help 100 million trees project edge closer to its goal

A project set up by the grandsons of famous Wexford women Min Ryan has moved a small step closer to completion thanks to the communities of The Rocks and Rosslare Harbour. The 100 Million Trees Project was established by Richard and David Mulcahy last year and aims to, as the title suggests, plant 100 million trees in Ireland over the next decade.

The Rocks Mauldintown, Wexford was planted with 1325 native trees as part of ‘The 100 Million Trees Project’. The project which was launched last year in Co. Wexford is a national community-driven initiative developed by brothers, Richard and David Mulcahy. The project’s aim is to plant 100 million native Irish trees throughout the next decade to reverse the environmental damage caused by the reduction of forests worldwide.

Cannons at the ready as Wexford walking trail opens with look back through history

When it came to the opening of a new walking trail at the Rocks, the community of Maudlintown came up with a novel way to commemorate what was a significant occasion for the area. Casting an eye back through history, the volunteers from St Mary’s GAA and the Southend Family Resource Centre (SFRC) sourced two mock cannons which were installed at the head of the trail.

Local charities benefit from Aldi grant programme

A total of six Wexford-based charities have become the latest beneficiaries of Aldi s Community Grants programme, with each charity receiving a €500 grant from the Aldi store teams in County Wexford. Grants for €500 were presented to Wexford Marine Watch, South East Animal Rescue, Southend Family Resource Centre, Sister Aidan Centre, Pieta House Wexford and Talk to Tom. Aldi s Community Grants programme helps fund local charities and organisations that contribute vital work and services in their local communities. Each local charity supported is chosen by Aldi employees, enabling them to help the local good causes they are passionate about. The programme has contributed to 750 local projects to date, donating over €375,000 since 2016.
