Tulane gets funding to test electric shuttle buses
Tulane University has received funding to purchase shuttle buses powered by electricity that could become a model for regional transit.
The university has received $737,500 from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to purchase five Grande West Vicinity buses and install private charging stations to support them, a news release said.
The buses will service the regular university shuttle route that links Tulane’s uptown and downtown campuses and affiliate programs, the release said.
During the three-year project, Tulane staff will collect and analyze data on the operating performance and costs of the buses, with the goal of sharing Tulane’s experience with fleet managers in the New Orleans region and at other universities.
