Acushnet Farm Back Open For U-Pick Strawberry Season
Summer is right around the corner, and one of the sweetest parts of the season is back here on the SouthCoast.
Keith s Farm and Orchard in Acushnet kicked off its u-pick strawberry season over the long holiday weekend, offering folks of all ages the chance to pick their own fruit and get in the summer spirit.
The long-time family-owned farm, located at 1149 Main Street in Acushnet, has been in the SouthCoast community for more than fifty years, and after COVID kept its annual Christmas tree farm from opening last year, owner Sue Santos said it s good to be back for strawberry season.
Add These Activities to Your SouthCoast Summer Bucket List
The weather here on the SouthCoast has been starting to heat up, so cue the official countdown to the first day of summer!
I grew up on the complete opposite side of the U.S. from Southeastern Massachusetts, so my summers may have looked a
little different than those here on the SouthCoast. As a kid, I remember taking trips to Washington s rock-filled beaches, spending whole days braving the rickety, old rides at the Evergreen State Fair, and visiting the animals every year at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
It has officially been two months since I moved to Massachusetts and started my new journey here on the SouthCoast, so earlier this week, I asked FUN107 listeners to send in activities that are either on their summer bucket lists for 2021 or perfect suggestions for what a SouthCoast summer first-timer should add to their to-do list for the months ahead.
One of Westport s beloved staples is celebrating a milestone on Friday, May 28.
Wood s Premium Ice Cream Stand opened up in 1991 on Adamsville Road, but many might not know the history behind and before it served Gifford s Ice Cream.
Back in 1900, Charles Wood founded the farm and it s been kept in the family and in business ever since. It wasn t until the early 1990s when Charles s son and daughter-in-law Jim and Joan Wood transited it from dairy to vegetable farming. Fast forward once more to 2001, and that s when the Woods converted their old cow milking barn into the ice cream stand that you know today.
