The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) weekend, distributed relief materials to 1,112 households devastated by windstorm that swept through four communities in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The Agency, in a statement in Abuja by its Head Media and Public Relations, Mr. Manzo Ezekiel, noted that Ogomogom, Akorofono, Nkarasi and Abinti communities in Ikom LGA bore the brunt of the windstorm which pulled off roofs, destroyed houses worth millions of naira.
The NEMA Director General, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (rtd), who flagged off the relief distribution at Ikom LGA Secretariat, sympathised with the affected persons, saying that the relief items were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for onward delivery to the victims.

They have been bearing the brunt of the windstorm which pulled off roofs, destroyed houses with loss of properties. “NEMA Director-General, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (rtd), who flagged off the relief distribution at Ikom Local Government Area Secretariat, sympathized with the affected persons, noting the relief items were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for delivery to them by the Agency,” the statement said.

A fire outbreak at a natural gas plant on the outskirt of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital last night, led to an explosion which created panic among residents in the area.
A journalist who lives in the area told Channels Television that the reverberation from the explosion shook the foundation of the buildings in the neigbourhood.
The incident at Rumuodumaya, along the Rumuokoro – Igwuruta road, which leads to the Port Harcourt International Airport is said to have occurred at about 8:45 pm when the plant operators were discharging gas from a truck.
The fire has been put out, but operation at the plant is suspended.
