Four-unit apartment catches fire in Burlington

The fire, in the 200 block of South Woodlawn Street, broke out in a first-floor unit around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 10. Fire Marshal Mark Crooks said people in two of the units were home at the time, but all were able to escape.  Crooks said 19 firefighters, from both the Burlington and West Burlington Fire Departments worked to put out the flames.  They were challenged by the cold weather, ice and rough terrain at the property.

Police identify victim of fatal car-pedestrian incident in east Wichita Police have identified a man who was struck and killed by a car in east Wichita early Saturday. 44-year-old John Eyster was hit by a car shortly after midnight at the intersection of Douglas and Ridgewood Drive, a block west of Edgemoor.  Police later stopped a woman who was driving erratically in the 100 block of South Woodlawn, and they learned that she had struck Eyster with her 2006 Nissan Maxima.   She continued driving east and was then stopped by police. Investigators believe alcohol is a factor in the case.
