Apex, N.C. Apex Friendship defeated Hoggard 61-30 to advance to the second round of the 4A East boys basketball playoffs. In Thursday’s second round, Apex Friendship will host Richmond county in a SWAC vs. SAC battle.
The Patriots played as well as a team possibly can in the first half of a playoff game. After one quarter, Apex Friendship led Hoggard 24-11.
Hoggard did not score again until under a minute left in the first half. Defensively, Apex Friendship routinely forced turnovers and bad shots that gave the Patriots new possessions rather quickly. Meanwhile, the Patriots’ offense surged in the second quarter, scoring 30 points in the 8 minutes.

Raleigh, N.C. Millbrook’s girls basketball team moved into the No. 1 spot in the HighSchoolOT Top 25 rankings this week, but the Wildcats’ stay atop the east likely won’t last much longer.
Despite a fierce comeback in the second half, No. 1 Millbrook suffered its first loss of the season with a 64-62 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Apex Friendship and junior Indya Nivar.
After struggling to score in the first half, Millbrook found itself down 29-20 at halftime. That deficit grew to as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but that’s when the Wildcats began making a comeback.
After building a big lead in the first half, Apex Friendship had to hold off SWAC foe Fuquay-Varina in the second half as it escaped with a 77-66 win in a battle of two undefeated teams.
