PARK TWP. Park Township budget deliberations began Thursday when trustees reviewed the proposed 2021-22 budget, which includes funds for several parks projects and a consultant to gather public input for the former airport site.
Trustees will host a public hearing and vote on the budget in March. The next fiscal year for the township begins April 1.
The budget calls for holding the township s general operating tax rate flat at .9076 mills. The combined tax rate levied by the township will decrease due to planned reductions to the dedicated millage for police and fire.
Several years ago, the township renegotiated agreements with the Ottawa County Sheriff s Office, resulting in lower costs. As a result, the township is lowering its Police/E-Unit millage below what s needed to fund operations and dipping into its fund balance of more than $1.3 million, in order to reduce the fund balance to be more in line with current costs and cashflow needs.
